Bedse Caves

Bedse Caves are ancient Buddhist rock-cut caves located near Pune, close to Lonavala and Kamshet. They were carved during the 1st century BCE, making them among the oldest Buddhist caves in India. The site has two main caves – a Chaitya (prayer hall) and a Vihara (monastic dwelling). The Chaitya has a beautifully carved stupa, pillars, and arched roof with wooden patterns engraved in stone. The caves are known for their sculptures, inscriptions, and simple yet elegant carvings. Unlike the famous Karla and Bhaja caves, Bedse Caves are less crowded and offer a peaceful atmosphere. Surrounded by hills and greenery, they are a perfect place for trekking, meditation, and history exploration.
