Pratapgad Fort
Pratapgad Fort is located in Satara district, Maharashtra. It was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1656. The fort stands at a height of about 3,500 feet above sea level. Pratapgad is famous for the Battle of Pratapgad (1659) where Shivaji Maharaj defeated Afzal Khan. Inside the fort, there is a temple of Bhavani Mata, which Shivaji greatly worshipped. The fort also has Afzal Khan’s tomb near the site where the battle took place. Pratapgad’s strong bastions and walls were built to guard important trade routes and passes.Today, it is a popular tourist spot offering beautiful views of the Sahyadri mountains and Maratha history.
