Lonavala and Khandala are twin hill stations located in the Sahyadri ranges of Maharashtra, known for their scenic beauty. Lohagad Fort
Lohagad Fort is a historic hill fort located near Lonavala. It stands at an elevation of 1,033 meters (3,389 feet) and offers stunning views of the Sahyadri mountain range. The fort is known for its well-preserved architecture, rich history, and its connection to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Tiger Point
The point gets its name from its resemblance to the shape of a leaping tiger. The main attraction of Tiger Point is the breathtaking view of the Western Ghats. The sunrise and sunset views from this point are particularly mesmerising. This spot is mid-way between Bhushi Dam and Aamby Valley. Tiger's point is a cliff-top with a height of 650 m with a panoramic view of the surrounding hills.
Pawna Lake
Pawna lake is also known as Pawna Dam Reservoir. The reservoir is 25 km from Lonavala and is increasingly getting popular as picnic and camping site for visitors. This is one of the quick weekend getaways and considered as one of the best camping near Pune and Mumbai.
Kune Waterfalls
Kune Waterfalls is a breathtaking three-tiered waterfall located near Lonavala. Nestled in the lush greenery of the Sahyadri hills, it cascades down from a height of about 200 meters (660 feet). Surrounded by dense forests and misty valleys, the area offers a peaceful and scenic retreat, especially during the monsoon season. Kune Falls is a popular spot for nature lovers, photographers, and adventure seekers, often visited during weekend getaways.
Bhushi Dam
Bhushi Dam is a stone masonry dam on the Indrayani River, situated about 6 km from Lonavala railway station, originally built in the late 1860s to supply water to British steam engines of the Great Indian Peninsular Railway. During the monsoon season, the dam overflows and water cascades down a series of steps onto rocky terrain, creating a natural waterfall‑like setting that draws large crowds from Mumbai and Pune. The spot turns into an informal "water‑park" for picnickers who sit on the slippery stone steps and splash around, though swimming is officially prohibited due to unpredictable water flow and sudden surges.
Rajmachi Fort
Rajmachi Fort is a historic hill fortress in the Sahyadri range near Lonavala. Originally built by the Satavahanas, it gained fame in the 17th century when Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured it to control the Bor Ghat trade route. The fort features strong ramparts, massive gateways, water reservoirs, temples (including Kal Bhairav and a Shiva temple), secret passages, and old dwellings that hint at its military past.
